Google has quietly launched a new contender in the competitive voice-to-text landscape. On Monday, the tech giant released Google AI Edge Eloquent, an offline-first dictation app for iOS designed to compete with popular productivity tools like Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, and Willow.
The app, which is free to download, leverages Google’s Gemma-based automatic speech recognition (ASR) models. By downloading these models directly to the device, users can dictate without a constant internet connection, emphasizing privacy and speed.
Smart Editing and Local Processing
Unlike traditional transcription software that captures every verbal stumble, Eloquent is engineered to "bridge the gap between natural speech and professional text." When a user pauses a recording, the app’s AI automatically filters out filler words such as "um" and "ah," while smoothing out mid-sentence self-corrections.

Android Integration on the Horizon
While currently an iOS-exclusive release, the app's App Store description suggests a significant expansion is planned. The documentation references "seamless Android integration," indicating that an Android version may eventually serve as a system-wide default keyboard. This would allow users to access Eloquent’s transcription capabilities within any text field via a floating button, similar to the interface used by competitors like Wispr Flow.
